The best way to describe this book is compulsively readable.
Kandi's newest release is full of angst, intoxicating scenery, and funny, memorable characters. Aspen really grew and developed through the story – it's always a treat to watch someone find their voice, and I thought that was done really well in this novel. Theo... oh my goodness, new book boyfriend alert! He's this mix of sweet and confident, and I loved how emotionally intelligent he was; sometimes, he could percieve Aspen's moods better than she could. Do I now have a fantasy of a young billionare falling in love with me? Maybe.
I will admit, this is my first yacht-centered romance. It was delightfully fun! The proximity trope is always fun, but I thought this was a fun way to go about it. I felt like I was crawling across the European coast right along with those characters, and I don't know about you, but in the middle of the worst winter storm the South has seen in a generation, I'll take whatever sunny escapism I can get.
There must be something magical in the water (hehe, see what I did there?) with this novel, because though technically there is some slight cheating, I was not entirely turned off by it. (I did dock a quarter of a star because, like, ideally, it would be banned from all romance novels, but still, take it from me: if I didn't deem it bad enough to DNF or rate low, it's really not bad whatsoever and dare I say... in this instance... mostly justified.)
Close Quarters is, to put it simply, a treat to read. For anyone in the mood for some drama, some steam, and some sun, this is the novel for you.
