Book 1 in the Chronicles of Prydain was essentially a Welsh 1:1 of the first half of the Fellowship of the Ring, except it was a fun, breezy middle-grade read, and I've only seen the movie once rather than like 6000 times, so it still managed to feel fresh!
Book 2 wasn't a step down in any way, it actually began to deviate more from LotR and had some more mature elements, I just took longer to read it and had slightly less fun this time. So, I begrudgingly dropped it by a quarter-star, although honestly it probably deserves to go UP a quarter instead. Either way:
Solid book, I'll definitely continue this series when I need breaks from some of the more "adult" books, and I definitely recommend reading these if you find yourself in a similar spot! (also in case anyone was wondering, the Disney movie is a combo of books 1 and 2)

Brilliant. The series just gets better and better. The themes of forgiveness and redemption are a nice addition to a wonderful book.
