Stronger than the first book, this still didn't enthrall me. There are a lot of moments that feel like they should pack a big punch, but they all feel curiously muted, perhaps because the characters are so flat; Ellidyr is the most intriguing, but we don't ever find out why he is the way he is. I did enjoy the enchantresses.

A great fantasy adventure with great characters and themes. I loved it.

These books are still too cute. Since I just watched Disney's version of The Black Cauldron the other day, it was interesting to see the differences. Disney's movie is really just a conglomeration of the first two books, and it's neat to see just how grand and epic the adventure is in the book.
