I listened to the first two essays, and I did not laugh once. I also didn't actually care about anything he spoke about.

"Here’s a partial list of things I don’t believe in: God. The Devil. Heaven. Hell. Bigfoot. Ancient Aliens. Past lives. Life after death. Vampires. Zombies. Reiki. Homeopathy. Rolfing. Reflexology. Note that 'witches' and 'witchcraft' are absent from this list. The thing is, I wouldn’t believe in them, and I would privately ridicule any idiot who did, except for one thing: I am a witch."

For as long as Augusten Burroughs could remember, he knew things he shouldn't have known. He manifested things that shouldn't have come to pass

Thank you Goodreads and St. Martin's Press for a chance to read this book!

I have read Running with scissors a few years back that was also a good memoir. I’m not sure if I believe the whole witch thing in general. But I’m also not someone that says something isn’t true because I haven’t seen it for myself. But the stories that were written here are what I would have expected. They are funny and just when you think you will put the book down it pulls you back in. Happy reading everyone!!

I really enjoyed this book! I don’t think you necessarily need to believe him or in witches in general to enjoy his writing.

The chapters are more like short stories so easy to read.

Reading this made me wish I had some kind of magick ability!

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

When Augusten Burroughs first announced this book, I was excited and a little apprehensive. I've been a fan of his for YEARS, and I just thought - huh? Witches? But also - new Augusten book!

The book had the same Augusten flavor that we're all used to, so no worries there. And all of the stories were completely new. However, I will say that this is not a good "first" book to read by this author, as it does require background information from his other books. But they're all great, so read them!

My favorite part of the book was his description of the people he met in Connecticut - I half suspect they're made up, but I doubt it!

In terms of witchcraft itself, it's not as big a part of the book as I thought it would be, but that's okay. It's definitely not too "woo woo" but instead makes perfect sense as he weaves his life and tells and shows us things that we didn't know before, because as he said he's never told these stories before.

Overall, I 100% recommend it. And thanks to Goodreads for the prize!

Love love love Augusten Burroughs and this is no exception.

His brutally honest and quirky voice talks about growing up with some unexplained happenings. Which are then explained as he is a witch. Absolutely love and recommend this book.

I can't remember how this got on my to read list, and in the first little bit I was wondering why I wanted to read it. I wanted to keep hearing the stories and thoughts of this author.

I'm so mad this is my first book of Augusten's that I have read. I've always wanted to read [b:Running with Scissors|242006|Running with Scissors|Augusten Burroughs|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1438898196l/242006._SX50_.jpg|828773] but have never gotten around to it. I definitely will now! As I was reading this, I too feel like I have some sort of "witchy sense". There are many times where I'll think "man I haven't seen Geno in awhile. I hope he is ok" and BOOM he walks into work 10 minutes later. Witchy sense or coincidence? My favorite lines of the whole book are the last two. "You don't have to believe in witches. But don't ever fuck with one." YES!

Great read, but not exactly what I wanted from this book. I can’t explain it but I was expecting more.

While definitely not for everyone (is Burroughs ever meant to appeal to everyone?), I loved it start to finish.
