It took some time before I decided to read this; technically I read this series in a non conventional manner - starting with A Devil In Spring and jumping to the last two books, skipping thid one.

I think I put off reading this because neither Ethan or Garrett interested me. I was surprised to enjoy it, especially the first half of the book more than the latter chapters.

I loved how sweet and poetic Ethan's words are, though I think both him and Garrett are quite flat characters. Beyond the book's plot and conflict, there wasn't much to define who they are as people and that bothered me.

Mostly, I'd say I like this book enough, but I can't rate it higher because it's not nothing that's been done before. Plus, I sensed the attempt in making it centered on politics, but I only appreciated part of it and it did feel like the author held back. I found myself having to convince myself to get past the less interesting scenes.

My biggest disappoint is definitely the lackluster political issue. It would have been a big deal if only it was fleshed out more.

Nonetheless, I liked it and Lisa Kleypas remains to be one of my favorite historical romance authors.

Also, for some reason, I wonder why West Ravenel seemed to be written better here than he was in his own book. Hmmm.

An improvement over the last book, but the politics are still messy, and I just liked the romance better. Hello Stranger felt like a story told in two halves: spy stuff and hurt/comfort.

The spy stuff was boring. Kleypas was having her cake and eating it too with Jesper being corrupt and feeding arms to the Irish anarchists so the conservatives will vote against Home Rule.

I did love the date to the festival that Garrett and Ethan go on. It was so romantic. Everything Kleypas shines at shone brightly.

Given Garrett's profession as England's first female doctor, it was obvious that Ethan would become gravely hurt in his spy games and she'd have to patch him up.

Thank goodness for West because he lightened up the hurt/comfort to avoid an angst fest which frankly (if West and Ethan weren't cousins) the couple could've used a third with a sense of humor. As someone who grew up on a ranch, I died laughing at all his animal husbandry comparisons, and his speech about why the country is better makes him an honorary burnt out elder millennial.

While Hello Stranger is a slight improvement, it's biggest accomplishment is getting me very excited for the rest of the series.

I like Garret and West :) so I’m excited for the West’s book
I didn’t enjoy that much the previous books but I really like these two characters.

Meh. I lost interest in this one after the first act. I wasn’t as invested in their romance after the clerkenwell night market. And I got bored. The intrigue and conspiracy fizzled out quickly. It lacked the humour of books 2-3. And the brief moments of romantic declarations were many enough to rally me.

Bridgerton gets a lot of hype, but now that I've discovered Lisa Kleypas - I can't help but wonder why none of her series have gotten an adaption yet. The Ravenels would make an amazing tv series!
