Kingdom Come

I'm a sucker for ultimatum stories, and in Kingdom Come, we see what happens when old and new generations of heroes clash in their tactics and morals.

After the classics we know leave humanity to its own, chaos falls as new superhumans take charge. When civilian lives are brought into danger, the old heroes come back and war over whose method is best for protecting Earth.

I loved how this series delved into the humanity of heroes, and how it isn't just powers alone that set them apart from civilians. We see this in a variety of characters, and no one is so flawless that they are not susceptible to having to rediscover their own morals.

There was a wide cast of characters - Superman has always been my favorite, but I've also had a soft spot for Captain Marvel since I was young. I'm so glad they focused on him here, and touched on countless other characters who we've seen throughout history.

I'm not sure that the art aged that well, but I still really enjoyed the story.

Now I understand why Injustice is considered just fun and not taken too seriously by many and why people hate turning Superman evil. This is a masterpiece both for the art by Alex Ross and the writing by Mark Waid.
The only issue I feel is that the ending could have been a bit more darker in the veins of Watchmen. But considering the message they wanted to convey I think this ine fits fine.

Very very solid alternate future story of the DC superheroes. The story itself may not be something very new or groundbreaking, but the illustrations by Alex Ross elevate this work to the masterpiece level. It can be read without knowing lots of thing about the DC universe (although it is a plus), and it is not too long to overstay its welcome
