She's just playing with language! Love the focus on Nao, Hyejung, and Tina ❤️ love love love this Translanguaging space

beautiful depiction of a multicultural, multilingual space. Full of insight and expressive artwork.

This book was so beautiful! The art was gorgeous, and the story was heartwarming yet bittersweet. I enjoyed following these twenty-somethings on their journeys to find themselves and their place in the world through the lens of their different backgrounds and experiences.

4.5 stars. I loved every page and couldn't stop bawling at the end. Heck, I'm still crying.

This was such a great story about losing your culture and trying to adapt as well as trying to find yourself. Each character living in the house had their own struggles and it was nice how relatable each character was. This book had a decent amount of sad moments but it had a lot of inspiring moment of seeing where you fit in society.

One chapter in and I was about to cry on the Barnes & Noble floor. Super cathartic for any one estranged from their roots and trying to navigate their way through their diaspora - *especially* so for Asian Americans.

This was recommended to me by my friend who has lived in Japan and who said it was so nostalgic to her. I lived in Korea for a few years in my youth and this was just as nostalgic to me despite it taking place in Japan. This brought back so many memories and feelings I had forgotten about and it really highlighted how life changing a year abroad can be. I loved everything from the style of the drawings to the story and way it was told. The story telling was so creative and especially the use of accents and languages made the characters feel very real. It had me laugh out loud several times but also had me almost cry more than once.
I highly recommend it to everyone and maybe especially people who have lived abroad and need to be reminded of just how special that time in your life was ✨️

Loved the characters, and the themes hit really hard as a child of immigrants. I thought the slice of life format worked really well, and made the ending pack even more of an emotional punch.
