Unusual narrative voice- very casual, immersive and funny
endless misogyny which makes the reading less enjoyable, but still effective at communicating the depth of adolescent isolation, as well as its short term intensities

really do respect that salinger's take on adolescence and isolation has struck a chord with people for so long

What I liked about this book wasn't actually the storyline or plot - as there wasn't really any - but rather the writing of J. D. Salinger. I could see the themes he was trying to incorporate into this book.

*Fastforward* To be honest, it's now been over a year since I've read this book and I can't remember what actually happens? I remember Holden's character though. I didn't exactly find him endearing, but he was definitely well characterised, and that is key for me.

I do however find it difficult to see how this book could be a favourite?
