I couldn't care less for it. I tried very hard to feel something and get on with it, especially since I quite enjoyed Butcher and Blackbird and the first novel in the Mindf*ck series, but there's entirely too many words here and way too little plot.

My takeaway from this one is that while it's useful to be in the character's head, it doesn't mean all of those sequences have to make it into the book.

Content Warnings: [Pulled straight from the front of the book ^^]
Religious trauma (references to cults in particular), including manipulation and degradation • References to drug abuse • Parental neglect • Physical and emotional abuse/manipulation (no sexual abuse). Includes abuse suffered by a child from an authority figure (not a parent), which includes beating/whipping/burns leaving permanent scars • References to an intended marriage between a minor and a young adult which is NOT consummated and no sexual contact occurs • Physical violence, torture, and murder • Claustrophobia • Panic attacks and undiagnosed PTSD • Explicit language • Detailed sexual content. The sexual activity is consensual, though some consensual non-consensual ( CNC ) role play is depicted. It includes some kinks and behaviors that some readers might find triggering, including breath play, praise, BDSM, and rough sex.

Ever since reading Butcher and Blackbird I knew I needed to read more of Brynne's work...and Black Sheep did not disappoint. This is definitely darker than Butcher and Blackbird...nothing romcom-y about it. So just know that going in ^^

When I first started reading I was a little worried I wouldn't connect to Bria but as her many layers begin to peel back...I not only connected, I related too, and fiercely wanted to support and protect.

Though the first have of the book did feel a little slow [in the thriller/mystery aspect of the story...the spice was spicing don't worry haha] the last half I could not put down and ended up reading into the wee hours to finish.

Though the story ended I could easily see a spin off happen and I would not be disappointed if that happened ^^

“Good. Now come on, baby. Open that pretty mouth and let me give you something sweet.” 😳😩🫠

I love this so much. The spice was spicing. The action was awesome. The tension between the pair had me kicking and giggling. Glad I picked this up.

Bria is not what she seems. On the surface she is a dedicated and bright student. Secretly she is hunting down and killing anyone who can lead her to the elusive cult leader, Caron Berger. Eli, a psychology professor, has teamed up with the FBI to investigate the same cult leaders Bria has been secretly killing off.

This one was set up for an incredibly interesting story. Badass female serial killer out to get revenge? ✔️ Crazy cult vibes? ✔️ Amazing sexual chemistry? ✔️

Unfortunately, after about 20% it just lost me. Once the two of them got together, the plot just went right out the window. Which is too bad because it could have been SO interesting. The cult plot line just felt like an afterthought throughout the rest of the book.

I did like the ending tho. Eli embraces the darkness and gives Bria a special "gift".

Tropes: professor/student, female serial killer, cults, revenge
