Easy breezy light read... Finished it in about 2 hours.. Really nice story ideas and well written!
What I liked:
- reminded me of the tv show Psych
- Love triangle
- murder mystery
What I didn't like:
- I didn't understand why Clary said her family were freaks for everyone in town but she was always with someone who liked her every girl loved her brother.

I wish the murderer was the hot guy, what a twist that would be. Much more exciting
It was a good, short mystery. A teen girl, murder, heartbreak, love, and betrayal. I'm bummed by the unknown at the end of what Clare decides in her love life. Can't wait to read more from Kim Harrington.
I’ll admit it. When I first started Clarity, I assumed it was going to be like EVERY OTHER paranormal young-adult romance: shallow, with an annoying heroine, and a controlling alpha male guy. But Clarity wasn’t like that at all. I actually found it a bit different from the other paranormal young adult romances (you know, the ones that are trying to capitalize on Twilight’s fame of having a very unoriginal premise) and enjoyable.
I liked that the book wasn’t mainly about the romance. It actually had a plot and wasn’t all mushy-mushy “I love yous” with an itty bitty resolution at the end to make it seem like it had a plot when it really doesn‘t. The mystery in Clarity was also very intriguing. It made sense and bonus points to the author for keeping me guessing most of the way. I usually figure out the whodunit at the very beginning or by the middle, but with Clarity I kept thinking “No, it was this person. Wait, no! It was that person! No, no, no, it was THAT person!”
As for the romance, I didn’t really like Gabriel all that much. He reminded me of Jess from Gilmore Girls and I loathed Jess. I like Justin way more (which is shocking considering what happened in their relationship). I basically liked EVERY OTHER guy more than Gabriel. I guess I found him a bit standoffish. But the romance didn’t make me roll my eyes the way it usually does, so again, I award the author bonus points for that. Oh, and I really liked Clarity (the character). She was feisty and spoke her mind often. That’s what I want in a young adult heroine. Someone strong-headed and logical. Not just someone who follows a guy blindly.
However, not all of Clarity was good. I had a very big “suspend belief (or disbelief)” moment. No detective in his right mind is going to employ teenagers in the case no matter how unofficial it is (or at least partake in the case as much as Clarity and Gabriel did). It just doesn’t happen. If you add in the fact that one of those teenagers is a psychic and the other is his offspring then you pretty much have me ranting “this just doesn’t happen.” First of all, a good detective wouldn’t want to put minors in any unnecessary danger. Secondly, any evidence obtained would be debunked by any good defense attorney. They could argue that the evidence (not counting the premonitions because that’s a whole other topic) was tainted or that there is a conflict of interest with the detective’s son finding the evidence and so on. Any evidence obtained by those means would be thrown out by whatever judge assigned to the case. Or so I believe by my many Law and Order: SVU marathons that I’ve been watching this week. That was my main gripe with Clarity.
Besides that, I did really enjoy Clarity. It was a pretty unique paranormal romance (I.e. not a Twilight knock-off) and it was a quick, breezy read. I just could not put this book down (I ended up reading it in one sitting). So, Clarity is highly recommended.

Clarity (Clare) Fern has the ability to sense memories and emotions from the past by touching an object that someone once held. In her small tourist town she is known as being part of a family of "freaks," her mother a telepath and her brother a medium. Her family's business relies on the tourist who love to have readings while on vacation. When a teenage tourist by the name of Victoria is found murdered in her hotel room, Clare is asked to use her abilities to help solve the case before all the tourist flee. Unfortunately this requires her to work with both her ex-boyfriend and the hot son of the town's new detective who scorns her abilities. Little does she know that this murder may hit a little to close to home.
I loved Clarity's character. Dubbed a freak by the locals she has always been a bit isolated. Her best friends are her brother Perry, and his friend Nate. She loves her family, but longs to leave Eastport so she can start over someplace where they don't know about her abilities. Her character felt so real to me, and her actions seemed very true to her character.
The pacing of the mystery was fantastic. It keeps you turning the pages to find out who murdered Victoria. In a small town where everyone knows each other there doesn't seem to be many secrets.
Overall this was a fast and enjoyable read. There isn't a lot of meat and some details could have been fleshed out more, but I loved the fact that I could sit down and be entertained by this book. I also loved the fact that Clarity is a bright resilient character who uses her brain as much as she uses her abilities.
Cautions for sensitive readers: Mild language.
Okay! So Clarity had me from the very first chapter. I'm talking about both the book and the main character, Clarity - also called Clare! But when I read on, the book just got more and more interesting, and I just had to know more.
The plot was good - not too fast, not too slow - and really interesting. I really liked the idea of a psycic girl helping with a murder investigation. It was definitely hard for the adult to take it seriously, but luckly we had the kids. I love it when kids solve something the adults can't solve ;p
Anyhoe. I really loved Clare's character. She was a very cool girl with a big mouth. A really stubborn girl with a big chunk of pride. I really also loved her family. Clare thought her family were freaks, but I wish mine were like hers! :)
Even though this book was about a murder, it was a light book. Definitely one you could read in the summer - maybe I thought that because I read it in the sunshine, and the book takes place in the summer. It was a great mixture of mystery, humor and romance, that kept you turning the pages and lose your surroundings! I did.
The ending was very satisfactory, but nonetheless I didn't feel that Clare's story was done so... Now I want more! I really didn't have any problems with this book what so ever and I'm really excited for the next one!! Can't wait!

I really had fun reading it, surprisingly enough. After a slew of reads that I did not particularly like, I had set my expectations low for Clarity despite my love of mysteries. But I did enjoy it and I loved it! I had fun solving the case with Clarity, following it from her perspective. The story was really, really straightforward, right down to business.
I liked how the paranormal and the "normal" elements were melded together to create a cohesive narrative that is something anyone can enjoy. But I have to admit it did remind me of Meg Cabot's 1-800-Where-R-U series and Alane Ferguson's Forensic Mystery series (which I both love). Nonetheless, Clarity can stand on its own and with that tantalizing psychic reading that Clarity got in the end, I would definitely read the sequel.

Too many boys, seriously too many. And the main character isn't all that likable. I think she's supposed to come off as a tough girl with a hard life but she just comes off as whiny and bitchy.
