Excellent writing, great characters, and an original, likeable, strong female lead. I loved how she didn't whine too much about everyone bullying her, but at the same time Harrington wrote Clare as being vulnerable underneath. The mystery was a little predictable, but that didn't make the book less enjoyable.
3.5 stars, really. The 1st half was 3ish and the 2nd half was 4.
Oh how I love a good mystery story! Even better was that this one had a paranormal twist because of Clare's ability. In my opinion Clare is a cooler, paranormal version of Nancy Drew (and I used to love reading Nancy Drew books). Actually come to think of it Clare is more like Veronica Mars (who I absolutely love, boo you CW for canceling the show!). I loved that who was behind the murder was not that easy to figure out. I mean I had my ideas, but I wasn't completely right. So I loved Clare & thought she was a strong female character, which I always love to see. I also loved the strong family bond between Clare, her mom, and her brother. Oh and Clare & Perry's real names made me laugh, especially Perry's (poor boy)!
And now on to a short rant about the boys in the book. They actually made me laugh a little because to me it felt like a what not to do guide for guys, lol. Clare's brother Perry is rather promiscuous and doesn't really care about the consequences, which makes him an idiot but it is somewhat common for boys. Then you have Justin (Clare's ex-boyfriend) who drunkenly sleeps with her biggest enemy (Tiffany, who Clare calls Skanky McSkankbag, lol!!!). At least he apologized (and actually meant it) & he really cares about her. However, in my opinion that would be it as a relationship for me (I might be able to forgive him & be friends like Clare did), but there would never be a romantic relationship again (I guess I hold a bit of a grudge, lol). Granted Clare isn't back into a relationship with him but she isn't over him either, so we will see what happens in the next book. As for Gabriel he is judgmental & very hot & cold, which is annoying but at least he has a good reason. Although he should have told Clare earlier, but that is more forgivable than what Justin did (in my opinion because people are always judgmental). So I guess I think that Clare should move on with Gabriel after she gets over Justin. (all in all boys are dumb sometimes, haha!)
Anyway, if you like mysteries & a strong female character (with hot boys of course) then I definitely recommend this book. It is pretty awesome & I can't wait for the next one!

Needed to suspend disbelief at the fact that the police and mayor allowed kids to get involved in a murder investigation. Also had to skim some lovey, dovey, will they, won't they crap. BUT didn't figure out the killer within the first 2 chapters, YAY!
When you can see things others can't, where do you look for the truth?
This paranormal murder mystery will have teens reading on the edge of their seats.
Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.
And a curse.
When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case--but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother--who has supernatural gifts of his own--becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?
An OK read, nothing special and very lacking in the emotion department. In fact Clare seems to be more obsessed with the 'hot' Gabriel than the fact that her brother may be a murderer... Lucky to get 2 stars!

Nice Story, likeable characters, but all in all nothing special. I enjoyed the read but it wasn't that overwhelming. Fans of young adult crime will like it I think :)
So Good!! I kept switching suspects! This book really kept my attention!

I really didn’t know what to expect when I picked this book up. I had read so many great views of the book; I was just excited to finally have a chance to read it. I really enjoyed the book, and am looking forward to reading more from this author!
I really like the main character, Clarity. She’s different, but she doesn’t let that bother her much. I love strong heroines, and she’s definitely a kick-butt character. I loved her! The two love interests in the book are Clarity’s ex-boyfriend Justine, and the new town sheriff’s son, Gabriel. I am usually really good at picking a ‘team’, but I love both of these boys. It would be really hard to choose between them.
I can honestly say I didn’t see the end coming. The author had me second guessing myself so many times throughout the book. In the end, I didn’t have it figured out. I love a book that keeps me guessing! I was absolutely absorbed in the story. The writing was simple and suspenseful. This was a very quick read, I pretty much read it in one sitting.
Overall, I loved this book. It was great, and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to have read it. I was beyond thrilled to find out it is going to be a series. I can’t wait to read Perception!
Happy Reading!

Clarity "Clare" Fern comes from a family of sensitive individuals. Her Mom is a telepath...she can read your thoughts, but only your current ones. Her brother Periwinkle "Perry" is a medium, he can communicate with the dead. And Clare who can touch belongings and see scenes of the past.
The Fern family has a new age business in their sleepy New England town. That is until a murder occurs and Clare is called into help with it and Perry is one of the main suspects.
Kim Harrington wrote a fun, fast moving mystery, that I devoured in one sitting. I do have to say that I called the killer back on page 40-something...but that was a guess based partly on the writing and mostly just on instinct from reading lots of mysteries.
I thought the Fern family was brilliant! Loved that they all had a gift and were using them as a family. Justin was a cool guy and he had a great back story with Clare. Also loved Gabriel's back story and how he is at odds with himself all through the story. I absolutely can't wait to read the next story in the series! I'm dying to see how Madame Maslov's prediction works out! And also if Perry quits being a man-whore. LOL
