Maybe I'll get back to this, maybe not. But for now, it just didn't hold my interest enough to bother finishing.

I .... super enjoyed this book. I got into it fairly quickly, and Zinn did a great job of stringing along the little mysteries so I kept reading because I needed to know WHHHHYYYYYYYY all this was going on! I love Kyra, and maybe she spends a little too much time focusing on how handsome the male characters are, but the interactions between the guarded Kyra and happy-go-lucky Fred are pretty delightful. And good Lord, I want a tiny baby pig now.

This was such a fun romp through a fantasy world! It is perfect for fans of Ella Enchanted and Inkheart, and frankly I would recommend everybody in the world read this.

Quick read, with nice touches of humor and an interesting fantasy world. It has one of those romances where the girl says the guy is insufferable, but actually she finds him charming and wonderful and blahblahblah. And then the reader is like, actually, sometimes he is insufferable. I don't find him charming. (Well, the reader says that if they're me.) I'm not a huge fan of those, which maybe knocked a star off this. I did love the pig, though!

This was such a fun story! I loved the humor, the adventure, and the characters. It had a great twist that totally surprised me (love it when that happens!) and I can easily recommend this one to my kids. I was saddened to learn after finishing the book that the author passed away in 2011.

2.5 stars, but it was different enough from most YA fiction that I rounded up.

Finished this one last night...I MUST own it. It was fantastic! Full review to come closer to publication.

ETA:
*Many thanks to Disney Hyperion and NetGalley for allowing early access to this title*

My first thoughts on finishing this book were concerned with starting it again immediately. That's a rarity for me, so you know I loved the book.

I was hooked from the beginning. We find out early on that Kyra is a Master Potioner, and especially good at poisoned weapons. HOOK! This girl sounded completely BA, and I was very hopeful that she'd live up to it.

She did.

I REALLY liked Kyra. She was the strong YA heroine that I've been yearning for. Not that there aren't other strong heroines out there, but Kyra really stood out for me. She reminded me somewhat of Celaena from Throne of Glass, Isme from Grave Mercy and Yelena from the Study series, which are favorites. You should know that for me to compare a heroine to one of these three, it means that she really is fantastic.

Kyra is strong, tough, and willing to do what it takes to save the kingdom, including putting the kingdom before relationships. With that, she's not HARD. For me, there's a big difference. Someone who is hard seems to be unfeeling in my opinion. Kyra still feels, and deeply. It breaks her heart to do what she feels like she MUST do, but she'll do it because she loves her kingdom.

I also loved Fred. Oh, Fred. He was so endearing and dorky and would totally be the kind of guy who'd be up for a Star Wars marathon followed by a Lord of the Rings marathon the next day, and a Doctor Who/Sherlock marathon the day after that. I love Fred. (This tells you all about my ideal man...) I kind of picture Fred looking like THIS. Dorky but hot. Yep, that's my type.

Let's not forget about Rosie. Rosie was definitely part of the reason I loved this story. She's a darling little search-pig! ADORABLE! I've never been one for pigs, but after reading Poison, I WANT ONE. Really, really want one.

I loved the way the story flowed. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, never knowing what would happen next. I had NO idea what the twist was going to be, nor did I anticipate having to wonder if Fred and Kyra would actually get together. Now, mind you, there isn't really a love triangle, at least not in the same way we've become accustomed to. This one was more like a love squiggly line. I just wasn't sure. In the end, I laughed out loud picturing the look on Kyra's face. And Fred's face.

So really, I just loved this book. My only regret is that there can't be any more from Bridget Zinn. Sadly, she passed away last year from cancer. I'm glad she was able to have her book accepted for publication first, but man, I feel bad that she isn't here to see its success. I will absolutely be buying a finished copy of Poison, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. No reservations, and 4.5 Eiffel Towers.

WOW, did I love this one! It was like nothing I'd expected, both before, and during, the book. So amazing! It follows some of the themes used in The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, but in my opinion, better than in GG (and I ADORE GG).

Full review to come!
