Deeply grim, but also deeply funny. Not what I expected....I thought it would be more like cherry by mary karr but it was both that, and some of the best and most realistic writing about sexual violence out there.

It was a bit scattered but I love this author's writing style so much that I don't really mind. She's one of the few writers I can think of who's actually 100% hilarious, but who also isn't afraid to come for your throat. Myriam Gurba does justice to meanness.

A very honest, funny, lean book about Myriam’s life from childhood through college. Empathetic and not as mean as the title implies. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to step into the shoes of someone else, to Chicanes, writers, poets, artists, gays, shes, theys and queers. CW: This book centers around a gender/sex-based crime and the author’s experience with sexual assault and PTSD.
