A very honest, funny, lean book about Myriam’s life from childhood through college. Empathetic and not as mean as the title implies. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to step into the shoes of someone else, to Chicanes, writers, poets, artists, gays, shes, theys and queers. CW: This book centers around a gender/sex-based crime and the author’s experience with sexual assault and PTSD.

Myriam writes in a way that makes you remember what it's like to be angry. From grappling with survivors guilt of a serial rapist, to the delicate nature of existing as an LGBT Chicana, Mean is written in a way reminiscent of those early pride era motorbike dykes. An excellent addition to the sorely lacking space of LGBT memoirs.

A fun memoir. Some dark points and serious subjects, but Myriam writes about them so well. It was just interesting and real and raw and blunt
