Pretty good, I read this a few months ago and it's not too memorable. Good book overall, but truthfully won't find myself picking this up again.

Myriam Gurba is hilarious, her writing is humorous, real, and raw. She does a good job of reminding the reader how gruesome violence against women can be, and goes beyond a friendly reminder to dive deep into trauma, racism, and misogyny without skipping a beat. It can be hard to read, but that's a point she's making.

A lot of things I liked, and some parts that felt out of place or just off, but I appreciate an imperfect book. I related to it more than I expected to, given how hard I try to not be seen as mean. The meanness of the voice was very effective. I didn't always like Gurba and got the impression she might not like me either but it's nice to read something where the author isn't trying to please everybody or present the best possible version of themselves.

This book blew. me. away. One minute I was cringing away from the graphic descriptions of sexual assault and the next I was chuckling at the brilliant word play Gurba throws down. This is one of those books that make me feel like I'm not quite cool or smart enough ~ it humbled me and had my brain whirring in overdrive. Hands-down the best book on rape culture I have ever read, but it breaks my heart that I need to have a favorite book about rape. It also covers race, gender, sexuality, feminism, and culture in an unflinching, and at times hilarious, way.

This one isn't for the faint of heart, but it is a must-read. Thanks to Coffee House Press for the complimentary review copy.
