So I’m not really going to address the controversy around parts of this book, especially it would just be another white person talking about whether or not something can be viewed as racist. I’ll just say that I’m glad the author acknowledged the wrong doing and promised to do better and fix the mistakes.

That aside, I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the magic system and all the crazy monsters we got to encounter. The scene with the maw-mouth was

Tfw your school is literally trying to kill you and you are trying not to kill anyone there so you do a million push ups to build up enough magic for a shield spell. Also you have no friends bc people think you are stealing mana from living things for your magic. Anyway, what a wild ride and fun magic system! What a crazy world! Mimics in the shop! Creatures in your breakfast! A goofball out here acting heroic! Enjoyed it immensely!
