This book is a mixture of fiction and non fiction. It is very hard hitting and made me emotional at times.
The writing in this book is phenomenal. It opened my eyes to the amount of torture that people faced.
A must read book

This book was absolutely incredible!!! I didn’t want to put it down! I cannot wait for Heather Morris to write another book!!!!
If you have read the Tattoist of Auschwitz then you will know the style of writing to expect. It’s a mix between non-fiction and romanticism incorporated for a story, based on as much research as possible by the author. Definitely would recommend to read as a female reader - personally I enjoy reading about war-related books but find that often there is an element missing of what happened to those many women that were also part of the war? I feel like this was a great account of life as a female in a prisoner camp.

This is a historical fiction loosely based off a real individual assumed to be Cilka. It starts with her brief freedom from Auschwitz, only to immediately be thrown into a soviet prison camp and sentenced to live there for 15 years.
This story is put together from various accounts of what life was like in the soviet prison camps. It's shocking and hard to imagine individuals having already suffered years at german concentration camps, only to be thrown into sometimes worse conditions with the soviets.
Seeing this book as a collection of historical stories, facts, and both real and fictional characters, I highly recommend this read!

After reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz, a book that I found SO hard to put down, I was expecting this to be the same.
While the story line was still amazing and still touching, it definitely wasn't as gripping as the first one. Maybe my expectations were just a little bit too high.
