Once again, an absolutely mesmerising book… the amount of detail into the lift experiences of these poor people during the holocaust and subsequent Soviet imprisonment is insurmountable. This is a beautiful insight into the atrocious conditions, mixing fact with fiction.

A powerful, challenging and emotional read, bringing history to life.

Very sad and eye opening. I never knew about the camps after the war was ended. Loved hearing about Cilkas story.

An incredible story, beautifully told. Cilka is the definition of a hero in every way.
