Rune is a witch who must pretend to hate her own kind after a violent revolution which led to the murder of her beloved grandmother. She spends her days socializing with witch hunters and witch haters while spending her nights freeing witches from captivity. While trying to free a powerful witch, Rune must fake romantic interest in prolific witch hunter, Gideon, to gain crucial intel. Very quickly, Rune struggles to juggle her double life while wrestling with her growing feelings for Gideon.

This book surprised me. I expected it to be a decent, run of the mill enemies to lover story, but I found myself unable to put it down. While it would have been very easy to slip into cliches, the story carved its own path, and never became too predictable, which isn't an easy feat when the main subjects are witches and romance.

The chemistry between Rune and Gideon was great. I loved every moment they shared. I loved it when they fought, when they teased, and I especially loved their flirting and romance.

I am super excited that this is the beginning of a series and I look forward to more.

If Crescent City's strong, witty female lead met Foul Lady Fortune's enemies to lovers tension, hidden identities, and betrayals.

I absolutely inhaled this book in less than a day. I need the sequel right now. ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
