OMG this book was amazing. I felt so many emotions while reading this book. I laughed, I cried, I got angr,y but overall those emotions were worth it. You haven't read this book go out and get it like now and if you already own it then read it already
I absolutely loved this book! The main character went through changes both physically and menatally, which I thought helped her seem more real. The ending was perfect for the book. The only thing I thought was werid, was at the end when Eliza fights the animagus. How she uses her Godstone I found rather odd. That was the only thing that I didn't like about the book. It was well written and I loved the characters. There was never a dull moment.
She only becomes a hero when she loses weight. Great story.
Oh my God this book was something special. I am blown away and it has really rejuvenated my love for YA - particularly YA fantasy - I was a sceptic at first but all my worries were aknowledge and dealt with. The story is about a homely overweight poc who is married off to a stranger king for as far as she knows for the lols. She starts off the story with almost no agency and yet she claws and fights for her agency one step at a time. Seeing her character progression was what made this book so special.
Religion plated a massive role in this novel and it was nice to see faith depicted as something one can draw strength from instead if it being a cause of violence and ignorance.
I enjoyed the way the story was written in first person, present tense. Her descriptions ecspecially emotions (and food) were vivid and engrossing. If course it's not without its flaws, characters could be better developed including the villains but it's forgivable seeing as the perspective is from the protagonist who's narration us biased.
Overall a fast paced entertainment read. Highly recommend.

Great book, a lot like Graceling. The religious aspect and weight issue sets it apart. Can't wait for the next one!
I am so emotional right now since I literally just finished the book.
It was perfect. I loved every single minute that I was reading The Girl of Fire and Thorns.
The plot, setting, the religious system, characters, everything was flawless.
I didn't expect to be so attached to this novel but turns out I was mistaken.
Highly recommend~! Elisa is now a heroine on my favourites list.
P.S. HUMBERTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! *gasps and sobs while lying on a puddle of my tears*

Really enjoyed this ya fantasy . A girl's quest for self discovery, understanding, and power. And people die. Really looking forward to more.
I liked the first half of this book more than the second, but I still hold hope for the rest of the series. The middle part felt very rushed (apparently a lot of time passes in only a few pages, which I didn't realise until this is mentioned overtly), which meant the progression of relationships and character development felt unrealistic. I'm also not sure that the way I felt about certain characters was the way Rae Carson intended me to feel.
HOWEVER!
One really important thing this book does is feature a protagonist who is "fat", and has an emotional relationship with food. The delivery was not perfect, but the intent alone sets this apart from a lot of YA (which tends to only feature "unattractive" protagonists who turn out to be actually really beautiful according to everyone else but themselves). My copy of The Girl of Fire and Thorns features an essay titled "Weighing in on Weight", which discusses Carson's own experiences with body image and perception, and notes that Elisa's weight loss throughout the book made her valuable to a particular character, but that this character still failed to see her true value.
I think some of the moral messages were a little clumsy in execution, but the idea behind them was appreciated, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops in books 2 and 3.
Oh! And two thumbs up for not white-washing all the characters!

Excellent young adult fantasy novel, in the vein of Tamora Pierce and Kristin Cashore. I couldn't put it down while I was reading. Also very interesting because it seems to be set in the Southwest US/Mexico (based on geography and use of a Spanish-type language).
A book with something to say about women, bodies AND religion? oh plus it's got a great plot. Yes Yes Yes
