I really liked this book. It was an easy read and the author hit on a lot of things that I saw in my own life. It's a great read if you aren't looking for anything too in-depth. Just something to lose yourself in. Great for a summer day at the beach! :)

Begrudgingly, I will admit that I found parts of this book comforting. The neurosis and run on random thoughts of a female trying to figure out relationships, sex, and love…well, we’ve all been there at some point in our life. Whether it’s not seeing a relationship for what it is or staying in a relationship simply to avoid being alone, I don’t know a single female that has not experienced one, if not both, of these scenarios.
Allison had her ups and downs. There were times that I liked her, times I wanted to punch her, and times I felt like giving her a hug with a “bless your heart” thrown in. With her Sex in the City type of friend group all giving her advice, I felt like the woman spectrum was covered. My favorite character was Matt. He was funny, supportive, and a true ride or die friend (even with his declaration).
What I didn’t like about the book was the constant religion discussion and references to evangelical Christians. Yes, Allison’s upbringing did have some sway on her adult choices, so it did need to be brought up, but there was so much throughout the book that I seriously thought Allison was just going to say her “big love” at the end of the book was Jesus. This one fact took the book way down for me.
I loved this book! The author was hilarious, to the point that I read several sections out loud to my family, who also laughed. The main character was nice and funny and neurotic: 100% relatable. I really liked the author's style, with sentences just long enough to demonstrate how anxious Allison really is. I did think the ending was a little weak, given the unexpectedness of the rest of the story, but it certainly didn't drag on, and the main character stayed pretty true to herself.
This was a quirky little book, but I enjoyed it. Not only do Dunn's heroine and I share the same name and occupation, but also a lot of the same views on love/relationships/life. It's refreshing to have a female main character in a book that isn't Carrie Bradshaw and is a bit more traditional/neurotic when it comes to sex. While I appreciate Dunn's willingness to explore the issue of Alison's faith and religion, some of those bits went on a little too long and took away from the general flow of the story.
Mehhhh. A lot of focus was on the break up instead of her finding new love. I wish she would have gotten with Andre. Instead she gets back with the boyfriend and sleeps around with her boss? MEEEHHHH
This book is kind of a let down. I would've been happier with the ending being her happily living alone than to reintroduce Henry again in the final few pages. I just felt like there wasn't really any story. It was just a woman going through her day to day life with no real plot.
This was definitely a big step above most chick lit books. The main character keeps her neurosis mostly under control and instead of trying to get the man, she's trying to get over him. But she's also trying to deal with the guilt of her evangelical Christian upbringing that keeps nagging her. I really identified with her and even though my Baptist/Episcopalian/Methodist upbringing wasn't quite as severe, it still kind of haunts me. I just wish I'd read this sooner as it really helped with some issues stemming from my own recent(ish) breakup.
Reading this in 2021 on the verge of turning 33 myself and I’m not married *gasp* or have children *gasp*
How ghastly!! Most of this book just made me laugh and roll my eyes.

I picked out this book at the library after reading a favorable review of the author's newest book in the New York Times Book Review. This book was pure chick lit which I don't read much of anymore. It was very average.
