Really good book. Like a fun version of the Monstrumologist. I'm looking forward to reading the next book!

I adored this book. Yes, some parts were a bit childish or slow, but overall I really, really enjoyed it. It has a good story line, kept me interested, and I just loved Jackaby's character. This genre is right up my alley though so I figured I would like it. I would recommend this to preteens on up to adults. Well worth the quick read. 4.5 out of 5 stars. I will read it again, I'm sure.

I read Jackaby on a whim from a Buzzfeed list of the top lesser known YA series and I was not disappointed. This book is a fusion between Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes and is full of charm and whimsy. The book is basically a historical novel mixed with urban fantasy with a lot of fun mythological creatures. Easy breezy reading but super enjoyable and sure to interest the reader no matter what the age.

Read based on a recommendation of Beastly Bones (Jackaby #2) by the Writing Excuses podcast
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. Picture Sherlock Holmes, young female Watson, supernatural cases a la Gail Carriger's Soulless series, and the most lovable cast of characters. I literally couldn't put this book down. High-quality YA lit. Just read it.

Jackaby is a fun read, combining a mystery case with folklore-fantasy elements.

The story has two delightful characters, with Jackaby being a mixture of Poirot and Holmes, and his new employee and our narrator, Abigail, being a fearless, but also clever and feisty, the just right person for the quirky detective.

The mystery was enjoyable enough as well. It combined a lot of folklore stories and myths, and the twist, in the end, was unpredictable and well handled.

Finally, the writing is enjoyable, light, fun, and with a comical essence. The narration of the audiobook was spot on as well.

I started listening to this on audio but the CDs were skipping so I read the rest of the book. I did enjoy the narrator so I would recommend that.

I did like Abigail Rook but wasn't a fan of Jackaby. I did enjoy the end with who the killer was and it was right in front of my nose! Don't think I'll read on in the series...wish it had a good cliffhanger at the end.
