I've been in love with the world of Thedas since I first played Dragon Age: Origins so it was awesome to see more of the world than just playing the videogames gives you. The book is split into different sections on races, countries, religion, magic and the Blight with a bestiary at the back. If you bothered to read the codex while you played the games then a lot of this will be information you have already seen. But since I rarely read the codex (and the artwork is gorgeous), I loved getting to see more of Thedas. Definitely a must if you're a Dragon Age fan but DO NOT read it if you haven't played through Dragon Age 2 and intend to, it has some major spoilers for that plotline.

Personally I think it's very sexy of me to have an obsessive, encyclopedic knowledge of Dragon Age that I remember better than the entirety of my undergraduate career.

I might know more about Thedas than I do about my own country at this point. I loved the codex entries from the games scattered throughout and the double page spreads with artwork.

By the time I chanced upon the world of Dragon Age, and subsequently fell in love with it, the latest game in the series (DA: Inquisition) had long been out and this book had long been out of print. I was undeterred in my quest to acquire a copy, however, so after a hefty payment and a long wait, I finally had the beautiful thing in my hands.

This book is a wonderful introduction to the world of Thedas (short for THE Dragon Age Setting, if you’re curious) and its myriad peoples. It covers geography, culture, religion, lore and more. My favorite bit, however, is the extremely detailed timeline that runs through the entirety of the tome. I find myself coming back to it often for a quick refresher on the sequence of events.

This book is succeeded by the equally informative and excitingly thicker “Dragon Age: The World of Thedas Volume 2.” Which I also own. Of course. Thankfully my wallet didn’t have to suffer so much for that one.

My brain is on full Dragon Age lockdown and this was emphasized today when I sat down and read this entire thing on a whim. It's a Dragon Age textbook. It's fantastic.
