Beautiful and engaging. An Asian woman navigating academia and sexism and relationships (and the patriarchy in relationships). As a math nerd, I totally loved it and could relate a bit, but you certainly don’t have to be a math nerd to get it or enjoy it. I will probably read more of this author.

its so good that id pick it up again and reread everything for the sake of engraining and nitpicking details i might have missed out (i love how flawed and vulnerable katherine is. she kept that fire within her that would've been lost in other books for the sake of a happy ending.)
Graphic: Misogyny, Racism, Sexism
Moderate: Antisemitism, War
Excited to finally post about this, since someone's birthday gift has arrived. I read this in a single evening and loved it; I will read it again one day in hopes of understanding some of the layers better.
Loved it. Feminist coming of age mixed with math and a family history mystery.

Between a 3 and a 4. As the mother of a scientist and daughter of a woman who would have been an amazing one had she been given the opportunity, the story was interesting and informative. I liked the tales sprinkled in between the main story, and enjoyed learning about different math theorems I had never heard of before…. A good summer read.
Wonderful book! A few times I thought it might be a true story (like an autobiography) so I got a little confused. But it's a fantastic representation of the struggle women faced (and still face) in male dominated industries.
The only thing I didn't like is that, towards the end, her friend Henri (i listened to the audiobook so I'm not sure how to spell her name) seemed to completely switch personalities

Loved this book! I have zero connection to the math in this book but such a great story on so many levels.
A book that mixes: smart female main character, math, history, and a family mystery! Yes please! I really loved this story of Katherine the mathematician. I surprisingly enjoyed that it didn't seem completely linear in the story telling and at very few moments did I know what exact year we were in, or how old she was, but that's because the story wanted more to focus on what was happening and how the main character dealt with it. I thought it was wonderful.
