Bought this for friend for Christmas and I hope she likes it. I would recommend this for little kids, does a lot to show how the things you do affect others and to not believe rumors you hear. To keep an open-mind and to speak your own mind. Really simple and beautiful story. 'Nuff said.
This book was not what I was expecting at all. I guess from the cover I thought it would be about astronomy and friendship. It ended up being about assumptions we make about people, trusting others, loving yourself and definitely friendship, even though not in the way I originally thought. I loved this graphic novel so much! #MaverickList
Reading 2019
Book: Stargazing by Jen Wang
A newly published graphic novel. Not sure where I found this one.
Christine and Moon are very different, but when Moon moves in next door Christine learns things that her strict parents don't want to distract her from her path. Moon is fun loving, tough, fearless, and believes she is from a celestial place. Moon and Christine become quick friends and the adventures ensue. Moon has a seizure at a birthday party and her life takes a turn. How will her friendship with Christine hold up under this stress?
This book was a cute story of how differences make the best of friends, how what rumors you hear may not be true, and how illness can either bring friends together or tear them apart. An elementary classroom library book, for sure. Reviewed for ages 8 and older, grades 3 and up.

Two very different girls become unlikely friends in this heartwarming graphic novel. Christine feels like she needs to be perfect and can't measure up, and Moon has a free spirit but struggles with a single Mom who has to work constantly to make ends meet. Together they help bring out the best in each other. This is a great middle grade graphic novel that touches on the perfectionism a lot of young people feel.
Touching tale of friendship between two Chinese-American girls with different backgrounds. Moon’s whimsy is delightful; the reason for her whimsy will bring on the watery-eyes. Hands-down, Jen Wang can be relied on for poignant stories accompanied by gorgeous artwork.
Stargazing is perfect for higher elementary and middle school readers … especially hand this to fans of Raina Telgemeier and Terri Libenson.

I read this because my student checked it out from our school library. I thought the storyline was cute and asked her to review it for me after. Since she recommended it I figured it take a look. It’s a great read and I look forward to more recommendations from my class!

I loved the way this book showed the pressures of growing up with strict parents and the specific Chinese and Taiwanese-American culture that the author grew up in. I love that this book felt like a safe space to land: Moon acted out but wasn't punished because the adults realized that there were underlying issues at play.
nothing special to me but it was really cute and a lovely story
Brilliant, natural-sounding writing. Characters who make mistakes and work hard at fixing them. Gorgeous pictures rich in detail and colour.
