A coming of age and a story about figuring out your identity. What was interesting was the author's note at the end because she sees herself more in the secondary character, not the character who was telling the story. Thought it was interesting to see a different person/character telling the author's story.
Christine and Moon are unlikely friends whose differences bring them together... at first. Different parts of their characters work together and clash at varying parts of the story.
There were some universal themes and events that are easily recognized by this adult reader, I think middle grade readers will understand them, too.

Stellar art, heartfelt story, and wonderful characters...please please please read this.

I’m crying at the end of the book but I feel the story is not as detailed as I thought. Maybe it will be better if telling how Lynn is having the imagination or any detail about her brain tumor.

Such a sweet semi memoir type book <3

When I was in high school, I had a discussion with a Chinese-American friend of mine about what we were going to do in college. She told me she envied me, because I could major in anything I wanted, but she, she had to do what was expected of her, and become a doctor, even if she didn't want to.

I bring this up, because, Christine, in the story, is envious of Moon the same way, because unlike her family, where she is supposed to do well in school all the time, Moon can get away with getting Cs, and no one cares.

And yet, they become friends.

What I love about this story is that the odd child is not shunned, but people are drawn to her. I am so tired of reading about children that are different being on the outside looking in. I love how people like this difference in her.

Wonderful, wonderful story.

Thank you to Netgalley and First Second for providing me with a copy if this book in exchange for an honest review.

For such a short graphic novel this story is hard hitting yet incredibly sweet at the same time. This is a story about friendship, and finding yourself. The main character Christine is torn between being true to herself and living up to her parents expectations. Its definitely a story I would recommend to young girls.

I think the fact that this story was influenced by her own experiences growing up made this book even more special. I really loved this story and will definitely be picking up Jen Wang's other books!

a fantastic story of friendship and identity and I adored it!!!

This is a very short read but it is very touching

This was a great graphic novel! Moon was a cool girl and I'm glad that her and Christine became friends. It was sad when Moon got sick, but I'm glad that she was able to get better. I didn't like it when Christine became jealous of Moon becoming popular. The way that she treated her wasn't right. I'm glad that she apologized. I loved the drawings in this novel. I'm glad that Moon and Christine were slowly starting to accept themselves as the novel went on. A great read.

A story about an unlikely friendship.

My first thought after reading this book was how adorable it is. This book deals with so many topics some serious and some not so serious, but it is done in a sweet and honest way. Some of the topics include: money trouble, anger issues, friendship, bullying, high expectations from parents and even health issues. It's crazy how much was packed into this book and it was done so well.
