i was very close to dnfing this book. the first few chapters were full of references to anuses and butts and i honestly couldnt take it. i think the author was just trying to depict a teenage boy’s mind, but it just came off as kind of weird. but once he stopped with the weird sphincter references, the book became much more bearable and i was actually fully invested!

this book is about a teen boy named henry trying to figure out if he should press a button that prevents the end of the world. however, he struggles with the decision as his life is pretty sucky. his boyfriend committed suicide, hes hooking up with his bully, and his family is dysfunctional and chaotic.

i love the concept and the author does a wonderful job of executing it. it deals with many philosophical/existential questions in a simple way that the average reader can understand.

the only reason i didnt give this book five stars is the issue i mentioned in the beginning. overall, this was a fantastic book!

Let’s just say you could tell this book was written in 2016.. definitely a book of its time. It gave me the same energy as Thirteen Reasons Why 😭 The story was decent but I found myself getting bored a lot. Also hated the fact that we don’t really find out what happens??? My favourite parts were the chapters focused on the different ways the world would end and I don’t even get to find out LOL. Maybe I would’ve appreciated this book more if I had read it when I was 15 years old, but at this point in time, I’m going to have to give it a 2.5/5 ⭐️

An interesting read contemplating mortality and what drives us to stay alive. It held my attention well and I found the formatting of journal entries with theories about the end of the world every couple of ‘chapters’ to be very fluid and helped framing the timeline. I would say there were a few parts that did feel more YA aligned, but nothing that led to me being disengaged with the story.

Very sad gay teenagers. Heartwarming despite everything. Badly integrated anecdotes from a future/parallel reality. Overall forgettable. (Check TWs, some heavy stuff)

I love this book so much. It's a beautiful mix of sci-fi and the emotional journey of Henry leading up to the end of the world. It's one of those books that changes you.

Some of the dialogue feels manufactured at times, and i found the plot to be a little slow about halfway through. but it's still a great book.
