The premise of this I hoped would make for a  sweet book - it had The Notebook vibes, with long time gaps between the various parts of the book.

I felt like the writing held this one back a bit in the end, personally. I didn't really feel connected to Ellie and was moreso annoyed with her, and found the author had added a lot of convoluted elements to keep the characters apart unnecessarily, especially given Ash's access and power.

I don’t really know what to say aside from… these characters were supposed to be in their 30s, full on adults, and yet behaved like teenagers, and the whole book read like YA… I don’t think I enjoyed this. The deception, the lies, the constant riling each other up then making up immediately, three/four times in a row, felt ridiculous. Also however many times she mentioned ACOTAR, and the guy’s accent/voice, was completely beyond me.

Best book I've read in a long long time. A beautiful love story that got me so hooked and so emotionally invested in the characters. My heart ached for the characters and no book has ever done that to me. I have found my favourite author !!!

💬 Non spoiler review:
Well, I did not really like this book 😅 I wanted to- the title and description really sounded like something I would enjoy, but ugh I'm just so tired of FMCs who refuse to believe the MMC is interested.

"[MMC] must be so sad she left him, and that's why he's using my vag to comfort himself. The only possible explanation for him banging me is he tripped and fell into my vag but obviously he's in love with her and will never love me, it's all platonic" wah wah wah🙄🙄🙄

They were also just SO immature and the relationship is super toxic. I found the FMC to be insufferable and melodramatic. There's no communication, she's constantly talking about how they'll never work, and there's barely any back story/character development for Ellie until the very end.

🚨 SLIGHT SPOILERS PAST THIS POINT 🚨

I feel like you can summarize the entire book with woman who hates rich white men falls in love with a rich white man and then gets mad when he's a rich white man and leaves him only to come back and insist she wants to be with the rich white man. Oh and did I mention that he's a rich white man 🙄

I don't know I just get tired of this trope. I'm not saying that rich white men haven't fucked things up but it just gets really old after a while

I think the most annoying thing about the FMC is that Ash (the MMC) is actually on the same page with her about the whole rich white man/generational wealth thing and yet she refuses to believe him and constantly question him about it to the point where she ends up leaving him. And then he STILL does everything that she wanted him to do like sell his title and estate (they're in Wales, the dude is a viscount) and she still is questioning him on this

For once I wish that the third act breakup had not been resolved 🤣. When she finally tracked him town (THE SECOND TIME SHE RAN AWAY) I was so happy with the way Ash shut her out, but sadly they got back together.

So yeah, not a fan.
