huh this was unexpected
My conclusions after reading this book are 3: I want to be Jude, I want to know Cardan and this book is definitely made to be part of the trilogy and here's why: the book is amazing, i love the characters and the setting is mind blowing (I enjoyed every second of the descriptions). The plot however gets heavier only at about 75% of the book and even though it does not end with a cliff hanger, not everything is really sorted out and there is much more to the story, so i guess this first part is just an intro to the world and political systems.
Personally I really enjoyed the reading process and the author's writing, but some parts just felt like they didn't belong in the story and were very slow soo yes sorry but 4 stars. I am about to continue this series and everyone says the sequels are way better so i have high hopes for the rest!

I loved most of it. Especially past 100 pages. But there is just some little things that annoyed me or didn't feel right. Overall nice book.

-14 year old me would have absorbed this in four hours, probably
-political plot lines, spying, murder, betrayal, plot twists, enemies to lovers!!!! so many great things about it
-characters were infuriatingly fun. i wanted to hate some of them but,,, i still kind of loved them
-the way it ended !! i’m very excited to continue the series

The first 30 ish pages took me FOREVER to get through, but after that, it picks up pretty quickly. I liked Jude (even though she made me very nervous), Carden started growing on me right at the end, and I quickly started to dislike Taryn after her relationship with Jude changed (which I thought was unnecessary and didn't largely affect the plot YET). Overall it was a good book and kept me entertained pretty much the entire time, so I appreciate that.
