This might be the best series I read all year?? Whoever said it was a bad book or a bad start to the series is insane because it was incredible. Perhaps if you're only interested in romance's it might not be for you, but if you love fae myths, the idea of fae royalty, fantasy, murder, mystery, a badass protagonist who values family and has a desire for power in a world she wasnt even meant to exist in, then this is for you

I read this in one day, which should be a sign of what I think about it. Honestly, I was scared this book was going to suck, but as soon as I picked it up I didn’t put it down until I had read every last page. Even though a lot of the twists and shocker moments in the book I expected, they were done in a way that I wasn’t upset I already knew about them. Hopefully the sequel lives up to this one.

Absolutely loved this book , it met all my expectations for what I thought would be in the series. Its the best book I've read so far this year.I found especially enjoyable was the politics in the book , which is a main feature of the story. As well as the main characters have me invested I the series. I'm looking forward to see more interaction between Carden and Jude. However I do want to warn that there aren't as many romantic bits as what I was expecting. Booktok has given the impression alot that it more centred the enemies to lovers trope. Rather it one of the lesser themes in the story.

I also loved seeing characters like Robien and kaye , who have been in previous Holly Black books.

Loved it!

Honestly, I debated whether to rate this 4 or 5 stars, but considering I devoured it within a few days, I'm just going to go with 4.5⭐️.

I think a lot of my love for this book stems from the fact that I read a lot of similar books as a child, but this reads darker and more adult. Yes, it is YA, and the characters act their age (for the first few chapters, I was worried it would read a little too YA for my preferences), but it's a brilliant story.

The story starts with a bang. There is no slow introduction to the realm of Elfhame, but rather, we are thrust right into the story like a sword to the gut.

Jude is one of the best FMCs I've come across in a while. She's calculated, strong, and badass. But, as the reader, we also get to glimpse how much she masks her feelings to survive and thrive, which makes her feel very real and relatable. She always stands back up when she gets knocked down, even if she's shaking in her boots.

One thing I will mention is that I see this story discussed in romantasy circles, but there is little to no romance, and it's definitely more of a subplot (at least in this first book). I see this story more as a tribute to finding resilience in the face of adversity and not backing down despite what the world expects and what others might think of you.

I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes in The Wicked King.
