Peter Clines is one of my new favorite authors, I’ve been devouring his audiobooks the past couple months. Paradox Bound is no exception, it was an enjoyable road trip time-travel book, just nothing groundbreaking and I honestly don’t think I’ll remember anything about it in a few months time.
Moderate: Death, Gun violence, Violence, Grief
Bland everything; unrefined writing, weak characters, drab dialogue and lame plot.
I expected exciting time-travel in a stew of well written sci-fi, but when the plot was revealed, I found "historical-travel", and American history for that matter is just not something that could ever excite me.

Paradox Bound is first and foremost a really fun story. It has amazing characters and a very entertaining plot with a ton of time travel (or history travel in this case). Eli is so great, but Harry is absolutely the best part of the story. She’s so witty and charming, and steals every scene that she is in.
The history travel may have some unclear rules at times, but I loved how different it was than most other time travel stories because of its restrictions. Only being able to travel through certain areas to different parts of American history was cool.
This story was like a mix of Doctor Who and National Treasure, except the time machine was a 1929 Model A. It’s one of those books that I just had a really good time reading.

Think: Back To The Futuresque
I had a hard time with this one. It felt drawn out and I honestly found the literal American Dream a little too eccentric. Points won for creativity, points lost for action scenes written to give whiplashes.

I received a free electronic copy of this book free through Netgalley in return for an honest response.
A different take on time travel. I liked it well-enough, but not as much as his other books. There were some nice temporal loops and paradoxes. All in all it was well thought out, but I was hoping for more. The end definitely left me feeling like there should have been more.
There were several concepts I felt he used well--the American Dream, the Faceless Men and their certainty, towns "stuck in time." The characters were engaging, although, again, I was hoping for more there.
If Clines writes a sequel to this, I will read it.

Interesting how people have different experiences with the same book. Looking at other reviews, I wonder why they didn't enjoy Paradox Bound as much as me. I suppose it would be a dull world if we all liked the same things.
I really enjoyed Cline's conception of, not time travel, but history travel. I think I would have enjoyed it better if he had infused more of the details of history into the plot. For example, in his end notes, he mentions that one of the characters was actually his many-greats grandfather. It would have been interesting to get to know him and his exploits a little better. Same with the other characters they met with on their travels, as also with the events through which they travelled.
Nonetheless, any novel that has the power to take my mind off a treadmill slog long enough to be surprised that I've completed my workout is a good one for me!
