The author has an excellent writing and storytelling style.  The narrative progression was sometimes unclear to me, as it merged a little confusing at certain points.  The conclusion was very well written, but quite open-ended.  Overall I enjoyed the book and it was a good read.

Possibly the best introduction to a family saga I've ever read.  I was amazed at how easy it was to keep up with all of the characters and this is a testament to how well written they were. The time and place just leapt from the page and I was truly immersed and hooked. I am filled with both excitement and dread to see what happens to the characters in the following books.

I only finished this because I’m still desperately attempting to meet my 30 book challenge this year. I am suffering!

For some reason I thought this would be a historical critique of the upper classes? Turns out it actually romantises the ‘good ol’ days’ when you could have servants, assault your wife, and hit on your own child.

This book has so many villains and no consequences. My fault for not noticing the recommendation from the Duchess of Cornwall on the back ig
