Oh wow, I never expected this much bloodshed to occur in a manga about libraries despite the "wars" part of the title. Serious combat and serious injuries are incurred in this volume, though most of our major characters make it out unharmed. There is a stunning moment that I originally thought was going to turn out to be paint guns, but nope, they went there.
One of the more fast-paced volumes with the preparation and attack flying by until the characters are left with the aftermath.

They’ve won this battle, now they just have to win the war. Glenda is an idiot, but I love his passion. I can’t wait to see the team in action again.

This graphic novel finally showed a bit of the war between the Library Forces and the MBC. It was pretty stressful as bullets flew. Some crazy things shook down on here and I can't wait to see what the next book holds!

The action immediately kicks off with the Battle at Ibaraki Museum. Both sides exchange fire & suffer numerous injuries, particularly the MBC who allow their own soldiers to be trampled in a desperate attempt to ram the human blockade of the Defense Force. Even though the Defense Force holds off the opposing force, the exhibition opening is still rocked with violence. A vigilante force try to hold the local governor hostage but Major Genda faces them down & is severely wounded. The director of the Library snaps & tries to burn down the building, incapacitating another ranking officer. Despite all of the above, the Task Force helps the Mito forces pick up the pieces & prepare them to keep the base running. The Kanto soldiers return to their base, only to find that Inamine has taken responsibility for the dysfunction at Ibaraki % resigned, turning his command over to his second.
An intense, somewhat bloody issue. The Library Wars series doesn't get dark too often, but when it does. . . whoooooo. Genda standing covered in blood & grinning like a maniac, the trampled soldiers, Sugahara's breakdown--you can't blame Kasahara for having nightmares. The stakes were very dear in this issue & I was captivated the entire time. I'm also curious to see how well the new commander will do. We've seen other weak & untrustworthy CO's & with Genda's leap in promotion, I'm feeling uncertain about this change. (Speaking of which, I kind of love Genda now, crazy bastard that he is.)
On a bright note, Kasahara's colleagues among the Mito forces have become true friends & both groups of soldiers pull together in the face of adversity, believing they can make something better out of the chaos. Library Wars is a series that believes in goodwill & trusting in others, an outlook that really adds to the appeal of this manga. Are you reading this series yet? You totally should!
