Spice: 🌶️ (some kissing/making out)
I think I liked this one more than the first one. I enjoyed all the politics and I liked these side characters more than the ones from the first book.
I liked that we got some separation between the main characters in the first half of the book. It made their reunion more sweet and I enjoyed that Paige actually had time to think about her decisions regarding him without him looming near her at all times. She had time to sit and think and still came to the same conclusion without outside pressure.
I’m looking forward to the third one!

Now that we're out of Sheol I, the series becomes far more interesting. This book is an excellent improvement on the first, but at some point Shannon is going to have to stop the incredible escalation of how catastrophic everything is, lest this little world spontaneously combust. The second criticism I have is of the tired trope of older-vampire and younger-human. It's boring and has been overdone in recent times. I just want Paige to find a nice boy (or girl, whatever) with whom to have a romance without a more-than-slightly paedophilic undertone.
God, so much better than book 1. So glad I stuck with it. THIS one was written with that Samantha Shannon juice.
My girl Paige is still getting beat up just a BIT too often to be realistic though. She has never once fallen asleep naturally, she just gets punched until she passes out i swear.
