This definitely suffered from second book syndrome for me. I felt it lagged for the 1st 50% with not a great deal happening.
Then things ramped up a bit and finishing on quite an epic revelation that when the hints started I kind of guessed but that’s not a bad thing and I’m intrigued to see where book 3 goes.

Personally liked book 1 more, this was a lot of "behind the scenes" and "waiting for the shoe to drop" which isn't my favorite. Excited for book 3!!

So much happened!! I was glued to the pages from the first page to the last with every subsequent chapter raising the stakes!
The romance arc is very slow burn which makes it all the more enticing and realistic considering how Paige has a lot more pressing things on her plate right now. On to the next at once!!

Really enjoyed this sequel! So glad I gave The Bone Season another shot (ten years later), and this book absolutely cemented my love for the series. I do feel like Paige feels a little young for all that the character does - but that’s not unique to this series. Overall the story, the characters, and the world were all great.

This is the second book in a wonderful series, involving gang wars, puppet governments and shadowy alliances with extra dimensional creatures in a very different modern London than we know, riddled with psychics, spirits, and the occult. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the characters, the world building, and the plot. Despite the daunting amount of new terms and concepts in this series, it's not confusing for readers to grasp or remember.
I found this book slower to get going than the first book in this series, The Bone Season, was, but once it picked up the pace it never slowed down. The book encompassed more than I expected and was a great read.
My personal favourite character, The White Binder, was found in abundance throughout the book, operating with flair and his trademark blend of sweet-menace. Paige Mahoney, the main character, showed growth, adaptability and a wide range of emotions throughout the book, bouncing back and fighting her way through the many twists, turns and challenges she faces though out.
I highly recommend this book to lovers of urban fantasy, alternate realities, the occult, and even steampunk to both teens and adults. It's a brilliantly complex, sophisticated take on the genre.
