This was a slow ride. I didn’t feel like the story moved along well, and I wasn’t real impressed with the new character, Dr. Aphra.

Compared to the main title this one is underwhelming so far.

Vader continued his search for Luke while employing Doctor Aphra and keeping it from the Emperor and everyone else.

Not as good as Vol. 1, but still pretty good. I enjoy this new canon character Doctor Aphra. Her droids and the half-robot Mon Calamari are too much though. I still miss the old canon, but this series has been pretty good.

Kieron Gillen writes Vader well enough that James Earl Jones reading his lines sounds completely natural. "Team Vader," both his official imperial sidekick who's a hardass detective and his off-the-books wunderkind evil Rey, are a blast to follow in every issue. Larroca is overflowing with talent, capable of bringing menace and humor to droids (also thanks in no small part to Delgado's gifts with colors, light, and shadow).

I am consistently impressed with how this series finds new mileage with what I believed to be an exhausted icon.

(3.5) I didn't like this one nearly as much as the first one. Too much of the action happens around Vader and not because of him. But it's still good. I'm enjoying the interplay between him and Doctor Aphra.
