It is mind boggling that this was a debut novel! It was a great read! The timeline jumps back and forth, allowing for multiple POvs - an aspect that was well done and really allowed us to get to know all members of the family (though I would've liked a bit more from Danny's POV) and to understand their family's dynamics. As a result, the story is a bit slower paced but managed to be heart breaking and yet simultaneously heart warming. I also really enjoyed Sarah's character - as the assigned FBI agent to the case, her struggles and methods were realistic and the snippets concerning her own family were so endearing. There were multiple twists throughout the book but the one at the end... Ahhh, you got me Alex Finlay - here I thought I had it figured out!

They found the bodies on a Tuesday.
Now this was a solid thriller!
The story is told from multiple perspectives and has different time-lines (present and past). I really enjoy this kind of reveals, finding out a bit from the present while you are also presented with some clues from the past. And the multiple POVs are again something that I look for in thrillers. So this was the perfect mix

Juicy thriller I couldn't put down. So many great characters. Family bonded and broken at the same time, bad ass FBI agent, tortured college student with great friends. Side story about the impact of true crime culture and social media. Betrayal. Secrets. Hope. “You have two choices when you’re confronted with your every last fear: Give up or fight like hell.”

Just okay. Kept me turning the pages, but I wanted a little bit more consistency in terms of the action. Something that really bothered me was that every random character was described physically, especially focusing on their weight. A man didn’t help Matt up from the street, it was an “obese man”. Random people were often described as “obese”, “heavyset”, “pudgy”, etc. and it was completely unnecessary.
