I found this book almost by accident, and I'm glad I did. It was a different take on a "bdsm" style relationship, and I found it very interesting. I liked Poppy and Archer, and Constance had her moments. I really liked the descriptions of Poppy's greenery and her designs, and I was very sympathetic to her particular position. I'm looking forward to checking out the next book in the series later this year.

This is the first, honest-to-god romance novel I've ever read. Why I haven't I read romance before? Mostly because I'm a snob and I thought romance novels were stupid. Lately - and honestly because I got put in charge of our library's romance newsletter - I've been reading more ABOUT romance. About how maybe it's sexist to call it stupid; about how so much of romance is about a woman getting what she wants; about how it's woman-led industry and so forth. Basically, I realized I was being a huge jerk about something I didn't really know anything about.

So I read a review of this - in the NYTimes because I'm still a snob - and read this this weekend when I really needed a break from politics and men. I wanted to read a book where a man was NICE and I KNEW he was going to be nice.

It was cute and sexy and fun. Obviously I should have known all of this about romance before especially since I will defend genre sci-fi and fantasy to the end of my days, but here we are. Better late than never? Maybe romance is another genre I can enjoy!

I still don't wanna read cozy mysteries though.

I enjoyed this book. I love the stuffy duke who falls for the wrong girl trope is one of my favorites. I look forward to continuing this series.

God, I love the angst between two smitten idiots, though I do wish some of the various plot lines were tied together a little more smoothly.

reviews are big mad that there‰ЫЄs cheating in this but idk‰Ы_ in the post-honeymoon arc i accepted that this relationship is a mess and i appreciated from the start that this isn‰ЫЄt trying to be conventional for a historical romance. there‰ЫЄs a man with a secret dead wife and son, a woman who has chosen her small business over marriage, marriage as a business transaction, femdom, and alllll the angst about said femdom and kinks. Period Typical Kinkphobia, if you will. all of this makes for really unique and engaging characters in the first half. after they get married it felt like a lot of plot threads go dropped in favor throwing the characters into fights about miscommunication, but it‰ЫЄs still kind of fun because it‰ЫЄs miscommunication in a really toxic way as the result of a significant secret? idk it was a good ride and the author could have written a truly great romantic drama if she hadn‰ЫЄt needed to tie everything up so neatly.

While usually miscommunication is not my favorite, I was in so deep with the characters and the writing style that I would have forgiven just about anything. My heart was physically feeling feelings during this and ugh, loved it!
