Kelley Armstrong has a knack for publishing books that I need, when I need them. This was a really fun urban fantasy escape read, with the right amount of romantic tension combined with family drama. I really enjoyed this story. It was the exact right balance of action and character for me; it didn't get deep or too dark, and so it fit with my current need for escapism reads. There is the potential for more depth in the series as the characters continue to develop, but for this book everything stayed pretty light and positive.
If you're looking for a deep urban fantasy series, something that makes you think or second guess the plot, maybe pick up something else. If you're looking for steamy sex scenes, definitely pick up something else. (This one has a nice slow burn friendship-that-might-become-more relationship, but that's as far as it goes.) But if you want a fun escape read, something that doesn't expect anything from its reader, then this could be the fun romp you're looking for.
