Long and angsty and sad, I did the ugly cry near the end. In fact, I went and hid in the bathroom to read a big chunk of the end of it, and then came back and read on my tablet with the lights out, so hubby couldn't see my red eyes and puffy nose.

While this IS a love story with a HEA, at it's heart, this is more of a story about the love between a father and son, and the grief everyone feels when a truly good man dies.

My only real complaint was who the "Boss" ended up being, it seemed out of left field, but the rest of the book was so good, I'm not going to quibble.

I am going to have to take a day or two to recover from this one. I have not cried this much in a long time. I loved the story, and it had enough twists and turns to keep it interesting.

Also I believe it will help me as well dealing with loss. I am happy to have read this.

I really enjoy T.J. Klune as an author. I’ve read the majority of his newer works and thought I’d give one of his earlier novels a go. Overall, I’m glad I read this book - it was interesting to see how his writing style has changed over the years. However, the book dragged a bit too much for my liking, and I thought the book could have been about a 100 pages shorter and still kept its emotional intensity and intended message/impact.

TL;DR: If you’re interest in Klune as an author, read one of his newer works - the writing is better and the stories are more engaging. However, if you’re looking to read more of his works or are really interested in themes of religion, loss, love, etc. then this would be a good novel to try.
