We’ve got a fuck-or-die premise that rolls into bickering idiots-to-lovers (I wouldn’t go as far as to call it enemies or rivals because they’re on the same side, so the hate they have for one another is mostly hot air).

Nate’s internal monologue can get tedious at times. He’s giving unmedicated ADHD with the way he goes off track and loses focus. Not to mention the hyper unawareness to run his mouth without realizing it.

Ian, conversely, is very gruff and not liking to talk unless it’s to clapback at Nate. He’s a bit of a meathead but that’s just your typical werewolf stereotype. There’s several moments where he purposely uses advanced vocabulary to remind people he’s not dumb as a rock.

Together they are a mess, but it’s a mess that works. And with the way the plot needs them to learn to trust each other and work together, they find a functional groove.

Yeah, the book title sort of says it all. I was in the mood for some hot, trope-filled and tense shifter romance and got exactly that. Now, I’m usually not overly happy with fuck-or-die-scenarios, hurt-comfort or so-called Alphas, but this book somehow managed to charm me anyway, and I just ... couldn't put it down. It was fast-paced and exciting, I liked the main character’s voice a lot, the story intrigued me and there were lots of delicious pining and hotness. The book had several things that bugged me a bit, and a few tiring cliches, but all in all, I sort of liked this, and I have no regrets. Please read with care since the book has explicit sexual content without full consent, and descriptions of previous trauma like child abuse. There's also violent scenes that you often will find in this genre.
