An absolute epic, often epic is overused but for this novel it is very appropriate.

I found myself deeply engrossed from start to finish, I flitted between audible and my kindle, enjoying the words brought to life by the narrator and also reading it a bit quicker myself.

At over 1100 pages it was a huge undertaking and the longest book I have read in a while, certainly worth it. I loved it, I think the relationship between Blackthorne and Mariko is one of the best I have come across in literature, my heart was broken with her scroll, so sorry.

I'm certainly going to try to read the rest of the Asian saga, maybe not right now but in time. I am glad I have had the pleasure to experience this book for the first time and the magic that comes with ones first visit to a world that leaves you spell bound.

Certainly won't be my last visit to be with the anjin-san and Mariko, neh.

As a fluent Japanese speaker, I could not bear the incorrect Japanese lol. Also I hated how the narrator narrated the Japanese characters. Orientalist vibes.
