Again a Murakami book that grips me in the first half and loses me in the second. I read the sequel Dance Dance Dance before reading this one, maybe that’s a part of why I wasn’t as interested?

In the end I couldn’t make myself care about the story, maybe I’ve read too much Murakami and I’ve grown tired of his tropes.

I’m going to take a big break from Murakami. I hope when I next revisit him I will be as enamored as I was with my firsts like Norwegian Wood and Dance Dance Dance

A charming Murakami novel that hits all the points. I felt the journey in the book was shorter than his other books I read with a considerable focus on the ‘start point’ of the book. It still round out nicely and fittingly though, a good read.

3.5 starred sheep, but only because I am holding it up to his other work. I liked this book a lot, but it's no Wind-Up Bird Chronicle or Kafka on the Shore.

Started with a good amount of intrigue. Enough to keep me plodding along. Then it got uninteresting. Then shifted into the ridiculous. And finally the ending was confusing and stupid. I do see that this is the 3rd book in “The Rat” series so perhaps I’m missing some back story that would make the whole thing make more sense. But honestly even with some more explanation I wouldn’t recommend it.
