Ugh. I really don’t know how to start this review. The story is so slow I felt exhausted just listening to it. I read this as part of book club, everyone pretty much felt the same way. It was maddening how slow the story starts, plus the switching of POV made it feel like it was jumping through time. It’s a hard read to say the least. It’s an interesting idea but I feel the book did not capture that at all. This is the first time I’ll say that maybe a movie would do it justice….

Basically the "Let's Generalize About Men" video if it were a deeply pretentious literary novel by someone who's read too much Margaret "Flat Affect" Atwood and loves, but doesn't really get, King Lear.
Look, we're already living in a dystopia; I really can't take too many more of these terrible dystopian novels.

This book is vile and beautiful. I couldn’t stop reading and is my favourite read of 2024 so far
