I think I need to read this in print for a better impression.

A beautifully written book. There is something so wonderful about reading older classic books. I quite enjoyed all of the essays in this book. His writing style and tone really many you stop and think about what you are reading.

A fantastic piece of writing. I find it both heartbreaking and fascinating that as a nation we have come so far in terms of racial equality but still have so very far to go yet. I wish this was something we had read in high school but I'm glad I read it now.

Interesting analysis of how African Americans were treated and thought of at the turn of the 20th Century. Very much of its time in parts, especially as it treated seriously -- even as it was criticizing it -- the idea of Black Americans as "morally inferior" and lawless. Though, sadly, the issue of monetary and educational poverty is still a stark reality today amongst those of the lower classes.

A good but tragic look at the American structures of education and prejudice.
