I've finished my "Your Lie in April" blitz. I've had the manga for some time, but never got around to reading them. Perhaps having seen the anime three times is at fault, but nonetheless, I am glad I made the time today to rectify this oversight.

I'm not sure I can add any more to what I've already raved about with this series. In fact, I finished the book hours ago and haven't read anything else to keep let my feelings linger. This volume was a perfect, heartsick and healing ending to a glorious series. The art, pacing, dialogue, and paneling were almost all perfect. I also didn't have a favorite scene. I felt connected to them all. There was page 38 which featured the worst closeup choices of the entire series鈥攐ne panel with eyes, then another with her lips. Put on top of each other they made the goofiest face. I don't know how they missed it. But otherwise, near perfect art.

I did want to discuss something about the artwork. When complimenting Arakawa's art in other volumes, I forgot to mention that I was specifically referring to the non-clipart aspects. In the manga industry, schedules are so tight (often 15 pages weekly), and the amount of work due is so large, that an entire industry has arisen to meet the needs of harried artists under deadline. Volumes after volumes of clipart have been published depicting streets, buildings, classrooms, and in this case, pianos. Manga artists (usually the assistants) photocopy/scan the relevant scene they need, cut out a spot for their characters, and touch up the art around them once the art has been drawn in. Western artists might regard that as cheating, but I won't address that topic here. Suffice it to say, this industry wide practice is why most manga have a consistent sameness to their background drawings.

When I refer to Arakawa's art, I am referring to the faces, gestures, etc. of his characters. You can't clip such expressiveness out of a source book. Otherwise, Arakawa's work would not stand out as much as it does.

I enjoyed this series to the last page. It's tale of redemption, rebirth, and death is classic. I highly recommend it.

OMG, I just realized why she is holding the cat on the cover. My heart is completely broken. So beautiful and sad! I have loved this entire manga series! This will be one that I reread over and over.
