This was pretty disappointing from Hendrix. The writing was dull, and the characters felt like empty stereotypes. The only thing that saved it from a true 2 ⭐️ review was the attention to detail from the artists and designers working on this book that made it feel like a catalogue, that showed every item number featuring 666 (and notably one that didn’t? I’ve got theories…), that really made the ending something unique.

If you walk into this book, come for the concept, buy into the concept, just don’t expect to be wowed by any of the characters.

I just finished this, and it’s the first horror book I’ve read in a while. I really really hated and loved this book so much. I don’t ever want to read it again, but I will talk about it for years to come. It was so unique right off the bat. I expected this to be a dumb and silly little haunted IKEA, which it was initially and drew me in. The characters felt real but I didn’t realize how much I liked them until I wasn’t sure they’d make it out. Once it got ugly, it got UGLY. There were a handful of times I physically squirmed and had to put the book down because I could FEEL the disgusting gory bits in my mind. I usually read romance and fantasy books and they tend to feel repetitive after a while so I like to throw in a book like this to shake things up. This one for sure did the trick. I want to crawl under the covers and read sweet books until the urge to shake things up grips me again. I highly recommend reading this book if you want suspense, gore, disgust, humor, and just overall a terrifying good bad time

Surprisingly fun and dark!

I like the gore (wish there was more) and I liked Basil and Amy too. The story is good, but the last scenes in Orsk are a little messy  and all over the place. But I liked the corporate greed that really shines through the whole thing. The ending is pretty good, overall a recommended read

This book is amazing. I absolutely love the attention to detail that went into making it look like a catalogue, including the furniture chapter titles that slowly devolved into
torture devices
. The characters were funny, the spooks were spooky, and the story kept me hooked. Even if the plot is a little weaker relying on the novelty of the book itself, I still highly recommend this book for a spooky creepy satire that you get through fast. Definitely check content warnings because it gets a little graphic.

Finally, a horror novel that I’ve read has creeped me out! FINALLY!

To be fair, I did guess a bit where this was going. But not enough to take away from the story and creep factor. I was on the edge of my seat and needed to know what was going to happen with these characters.

Overall, well done. The creepiness, the atmospheric writing and the characters - all well done. While not my favorite book, I did really enjoy this! Looking forward to trying other books by Grady Hendrix.
