An interesting format for a book to be in, and the catalogue pages at the beginning of chapters did add something to the story, but not quite enough for me to *really* consider this experimental fiction, despite the fact that Matt bought it for me because it was on several "best experimental fiction books" lists. The story itself was engaging and there were several moments where I full-body cringed away from the gory descriptions, and it's always nice to have such big reactions to a story. To be honest, I wasn't *blown away* by the story, but it deserves more than 3 stars. And I have to appreciate the retail setting of it all!

I admit, I was hesitant after 100 pages. I didn't know if I was going to fall in line with all of the bubbling reviews of Grady Hendrix books that I have seen. I just wasn't gripped, and after 100 pages of a 220 page book, I was more then a little skeptical. But once it got good it GOT GOOD. I was thrown into a horrific and stunningly creative horror book that left my eyes wide open and brain alight with exactly what you want from a horror book, fear.
Hendrix delivered for sure, I was totally hooked and at his mercy. The "Beehive" is just so creative. The pictures between each chapter are just so creative. This book is just brimming with creativity. My hat is off to you Hendrix.

I’m not sure why I keep reading Grady’s books. I’m not a fan of the writing style, and the books never seem to keep me captivated. This one was okay, just not for me.

“Horrorstör” by Grady Hendrix ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When you were little, did you ever get lost in a store, lose your mom and start freaking out cause you couldn’t find her and the store was all confusing and you felt like you were running in circles? Welcome to the adult version of that nightmare in this fictional Ikea warehouse called Orsk where the hallways start changing because something is keeping you from leaving.
This was my second attempt at a Grady Hendrix novel (the first being “The Final Girl Support Group” which I DNFed halfway through back in 2022) and I have to say that my intrigue in this haunted house Ikea style premise was satisfied. It’s much better than other haunted house stories I’ve read and the third act was actually claustrophobic.
For a book that’s kinda set up like a catalog, you’d think you would be put off by the audiobook but it’s actually quite a delight. It came with an accompanying PDF that helped explain the furniture pieces and the second narrator just had such delight in telling you about the ones that could potentially kill you.
Horror is a bit of a new genre for me. I’ve read some in the past that fall under the genre as a second or third element so I didn’t know what to expect from one plucked out of the actual horror section. Happy to say it wasn’t a bad experience and I wouldn’t mind picking up another Hendrix novel in the future.

Okay so IKEA, but what if it was haunted?? Hendrix brings a quirky horror filled idea to life in this novel and it is SO entertaining. The vivid details of the story really bring to life all the horrors our FMC Amy has to endure during a night shift at Orsk.
What is supposed to be a dusk till dawn shift quickly turns into nightmare fuel when Amy and her coworkers are thrust into the unimaginable at a place that is basically a second home to them. And for some a second or primary family.
I was wholly entertained while reading this and you will too if you decide to pick it up! Classic Grady Hendrix at its finest!
