Edira has been hiding what she is her entire life afraid that the Ferngloves will come and take her away like they did her aunt, until one day when her brothers are stricken with the blight and she without thought unleashes her magic to try and save them and she is caught by Orin.  Orin offers to preserve her brothers as long as she comes with him to figure out a cure for the blight.  Once in her new realm she is trained by Roarik, who gets on her nerves incessantly.
This isn't super fast paced or action packed but it was still a good read.

DID NOT FINISH: 69%

Orin was so obviously a terrible person, FMC too enamoured and attracted to see the red flags when the readers can see it miles away, ugh!!!

I don't know. This one was a slog. I'm glad it didn't go exactly the way I thought it would, but I'm not going to read the next book, and I didn't really enjoy this one. I wouldn't consider this to be very gothic either.

4.5 stars. The magic system, the FMC and the blight. The ending ugh. Hoping there is a book 2 and a HEA!!

I was really impressed with this. The magic system was well explored, and Edira's power was super fascinating. I had some suspicions about how this would end so I wasn't quite as floored as I could have been, but it was an interesting twist.

I knocked off half a star because I'm not a huge fan of the love triangle vibes and also the middle dragged a hint - though it was minimal and the rest of the story more than made up for it. I'll be keeping an eye out for book 2!

Thank you to Netgalley and Maxym M Martineau for the ARC!
