Oh man, from the beginning I was hooked in. I switched over to audiobook about 30% in because I literally couldn't put it down and needed to listen/read it any chance I got. Most books I go in blind, including this one. It's a little bit of a slow start but once it got going, I couldn't stop.

This dark gothic romantasy was so well done. I'm deeply intrigued by the Evers, and not just the Fernglove family. I loved the unique magic system and the mysteries of Fernglove Manor.

I had a slight feeling there is a love triangle involved but I'm in denial bc I hate love triangles (and also what happens with the plot without spoiling it). It does have me excited for book two though! Also. I was NOT expecting that plot twist oh my god. I recognize there's been foreshadow to it, but I am just a passenger princess okay??

And I know insect daddy was just a meme/troll for the marketing but honestly?? I get it. The tension and banter... I need sooo much more!!

Thank you Harper Voyager for the eARC, LibroFM for the ALC!

DID NOT FINISH: 40%

The audiobook was great. But the story was too slow for me. I wanted more details of the world or her abilities.

Ohhhh this was fun. I was stressed from the moment I started reading this so I knew it was gonna pay off and be a good one

*I received this book as an ARC read from The Nerd Fam*
While the start was a tad slow for me I was also in a real bad reading slump that I almost DNF'ed this sadly. I AM SO ABSOLUTELY THANKFUL THAT I DID NOT DNF! This book was so freaking good, I cannot wait for a book 2 assuming that there will be a book 2. I don't think I'll ever stop thinking about this story. It was very ACOTAR coded but better imo đŸ«Ł Don't come at me I don't wanna hear it. It's my opinion and that's that 💜 Read it and decide for yourself.

Wow. I really enjoyed this book. Fantasy with lots of tension, both plot and sexual. Characters are wild and the story races by. I will definitely hope to see a sequel!!

4.25 🐞 I love this kind of story. Sure, it’s a bit repetitive a la ACOTAR, BUT I don’t care, I will always eat up this kind of story.

And also it keeps its uniqueness the idea of thread mending still really intrigues me and I am SO excited to see the power structure get more flushed out.

We love a broody MMC with piercings and tattoos. We love a bit of silent yearning.

I am puddy in the authors hands when you have all those Romantasy micro tropes I love. That’s really the .25 for me.

Thank you so much to Harper Voyager for the finished copy and LibroFM for the ALC!!

House of Blight hooked me right away with its premise: Edira, a threadmender whose gift to heal others comes at the cost of her own life, hides her powers after her village betrayed her aunt to the powerful Fernglove family. But when her brothers catch blight—an incurable virus—she’s forced into the clutches of Orin Fernglove, who promises to keep their illness suspended if she helps find a cure.

The setup felt like the perfect ‘cozy romantasy’ with a unique magic system that grabbed my attention early on. I was ready to love this book. The idea of life-draining magic, the gothic manor setting, and the tangled political games between magical families had so much potential.

Unfortunately, after about the 30% mark, it started to fall apart for me. While the story kept moving at a decent pace, the characters just didn’t live up to the strength of the premise. The FMC quickly became insufferable—making frustrating choices, trusting too easily, and rarely questioning the obvious red flags around her. The other characters felt fine but mostly forgettable. And while the romance leaned into the expected enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope (with the genre-standard “everyone is heartbreakingly beautiful”), it was also predictable and, at times, eye-roll inducing.

Speaking of predictable—the plot, the twists, the character intentions—I had most of it figured out by halfway through. Even the ending landed exactly where I thought it would, leaving little surprise or emotional payoff.

There is some violence, though not overly graphic, and the romantic content probably makes this better suited for readers 16 and up.

In the end, I’m sad I didn’t love this one as much as I wanted to. The magic system and early vibe were spot on for what I was craving, but the execution, especially the character work, just didn’t deliver.
